Flickr & Second Life

I posted the last blog entry from flickr to test a week three activity in our Library 2.0 project. I linked to this picture in flickr for this blog post.

If you visit my flickr account, you will find a few sets of photos. One set is tagged OSNGUPL and these photos are from the Library's webpage at http://www.owensound.library.on.ca/

Another set of pictures are screen captures of my visit to an alternate internet universe, Second Life, which has great potential as a learning environment. My pics show my screen character, Timneh, visiting various educational sites in Second Life.

In Second Life, you must choose your last name from a list, but you can freely choose your first name. I chose the surname Janus because my birth month originates there. Janus is also associated with doorways which seemed at the time to be an appropriate educational metaphor. (Interestingly one of the faces of Janus is usually clean-shaven while another is bearded.) Timneh is another name for the African Grey, a type of parrotand I have always loved talking birds, though both my lifestyle and pet cat discourage any closer affinity.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheers - Tim
